MYOPIA

STARTING MYOPIA MANAGEMENT EARLY

Myopia, also known as nearsightedness, is a progressive visual condition that can develop at a young age, leading to poor distance vision. However, don’t worry, we’re here to assist you.

Myopia can significantly impact your children’s lives, causing challenges in the classroom and difficulty reading their favorite books. Therefore, early myopia control is crucial in helping children with myopia excel academically.

Our experienced team is dedicated to controlling the progression of myopia in your children through innovative solutions like MiSight contact lenses. These lenses have demonstrated effectiveness in slowing down the progression of myopia in children.

Our primary objective is to empower your children to manage myopia progression and enhance their overall quality of life.

WHAT IS MYOPIA

Myopia, also known as nearsightedness, occurs when the eyeball is elongated or the cornea is excessively curved. This misalignment causes light to focus improperly within the eye, resulting in blurred vision for distant objects, such as a whiteboard at school.

HOW MISIGHT LENSES WORK

MiSight lenses correct nearsightedness while also providing peripheral defocus.

This means that the lenses subtly alter the way light enters the eyes, which can reduce eye muscle strain and help slow down the elongation of the eyeball that often causes myopia.

YOUR CHILD’S MISIGHT OUTLOOK

Studies have demonstrated that wearing MiSight lenses can significantly decelerate the progression of myopia in children.

Notably, one study revealed that children who wore MiSight lenses experienced a remarkable 59% reduction in myopia progression.

DRY EYE TREATMENT

HELPING YOU MANAGE DRY EYE DISEASE

Dry eye, a common condition affecting your eye health, can significantly impact your comfort and productivity. It occurs when your eyes either don’t produce enough tears or when your tears evaporate too quickly, causing inflammation and irritation.

At Buckingham Eye, our experienced team specializes in dry eye treatment. We offer innovative methods like OptiLight by Lumenis, punctal plugs, and meibomian gland expression to provide relief.

Don’t let dry eye disrupt your comfort and productivity. Schedule your appointment with us today.

WHAT IS DRY EYE CAUSED BY

Dry eye can be caused by inconsistencies in your tear film, which consists of 3 layers:

  • The oily outer layer
  • The watery middle layer
  • The inner mucus layer

Dry eye can occur when the glands that produce the components of your tears are not functioning properly or become inflamed. Inflammation and other dry eye symptoms can also result from meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD).

WHAT IS MGD

Meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) is a chronic and progressive condition that can impair the function of the meibomian glands in your eyelids. These glands secrete an oil layer that lubricates the eye’s surface and prevents excessive evaporation of tears.

However, in MGD, the oils produced by these glands thicken and clog the glands, resulting in inflammation, eyelid irritation, and dry eye symptoms like eye irritation, watery eyes, and a scratchy sensation.

To manage your dry eye symptoms, we offer meibomian gland expression as a treatment option.
